Things That Just Ain’t The Same. If You Were Born In The 60s, 70s, or 80s, You’ll Relate.

Ahh, nostalgia. While modern conveniences make a lot of stuff a lot faster and easier, there are some things that just aren’t the same as they used to be. Based on an AskReddit thread that posed the question:  What thing “just ain’t the same anymore.” I think you’ll relate to more than a few of these.

RainyItalyYou can’t just grab someone and throw them in without risking $100s in electronics. :(

#4 Calling somebody.

No need to remember phone numbers, wait for approriate calling times, nervousness about who is going to answer the phone, hoping that your friend is home so you can talk with him/her.
Calling a girl you had a crush on was really really nerve wrecking.

#5 Small towns in America.

During the 80’s the small town I grew up in was on the tail-end of its own death-spiral, but the town was still reasonably self-sufficient. There was a grocery store, several restaurants, smaller five-and-dime shops, two banks, and a couple of factories (really just farm elevators but still a source of employment for a good chunk of the town). Now, there’s barely anything: two shitty restaurants and a convenience store. If you need anything, you travel at least twenty miles to get to a box-store and do your shopping. Going back 100 years and looking at historic maps and directories makes the present situation particularly grim; at that time, everything was available in the town, from cars to clothes, fresh meat and vegetables, lumber and furniture. There were theaters, fraternal lodges, dance halls, etc. for entertainment. It’s all really sad, especially being a first-hand witness.adam14113 on Reddit

polarbearlovesongUsed to be a night of exploration/adventure across the extended neighborhood, without parents, with the reward of a shit ton of candy. Now it’s paranoia city, with only immediate neighbors, family, and friends. Kids nowadays don’t know what they’re missing.justlikecalvin on Reddit

I miss going to the video store, and looking through the aisles. The old school days with the large VHS art boxes are over. It was always fun to go down to the video store on a Friday night, and bump into people renting movies etc.bsend

#13 Beverage Instant win contests…

It used to be you’d open a Coke and win a free Coke. Now you have to go online, register, and enter the stupid little code just to see if you maybe won a free Coke (but you ALWAYS win spam!)Harb67 on Reddit
