Yesterday Ryan Block and his wife Veronica Belmont called Comcast to discontinue their service. To their shock, they found it nearly impossible, despite having the customer service rep right there on the phone with them. He could have done it; he just refused.

Veronica was on the call first, but got so frustrated she passed the phone to Ryan. When he took over, he put the phone on speaker and began recording the conversation with another phone.

He writes…

Please note: this conversation starts about 10 minutes in — by this point my wife and I are both completely flustered by the oppressiveness of the rep.

You might think it can’t be that bad. But it is that bad…

The best part of the story is that Veronica has a bit of a platform online with 1.7 million followers on Twitter and Ryan is a former tech journalist who also has a successful web presence. Oh, and he’s VP of Product at AOL.

Thanks to his quick thinking to record this travesty of customer service and their combined online clout, the audio is spreading near and far and the rest of us get to participate in the Comcast hating.
